Prepare for emergencies in the outdoors

  • This is a wilderness emergency care training course and is open to all who have an interest in developing first aid skills for the outdoor environment.
  • The course will be of particular interest to outdoor leaders and instructors who are required to update their first aid certificate.  The qualification is recognised by National Governing Bodies for ML, WGL, MIC, MIA, SPA, IML; BMG, SCA, BCU, BASI, etc.
  •  All training is carried out in realistic and appropriate surroundings whatever the weather.
Course Content
  • Emergencies – Accident Procedure.
  • Basic Life Support.
  • CPR.
  • Vital Signs.
  • Unconscious casualty.
  • Breathing & Circulatory Problems.
  • Choking & Drowning.
  • Extremes of Temperature - Heat Stress, Cold Stress, Frostbite.
  • Types of injuries that occur in outdoor pursuits.
  • Management of minor and major wounds.
  • Bleeding.
  • Shock.
  • Bone and Soft Tissue Injury.
  • Burns and Scalds.
  • Common Medical Emergencies – Chest Pain, Asthma, Epilepsy, Diabetes, Stings, Bites & Poisons, Anaphylactic Shock.
  • Practical Scenarios.
  • Casualty Care Cards.
  • First Aid Kits for Adventurous Activities.
  • Employers Responsibility - HSE & RIDDOR Regulations.

Qualification

A Wilderness First Aid Certificate (valid for 3 years), endorsed by “Mountain Medicine Ltd”, will be awarded to persons demonstrating proficiency in the essential core skills.
